LeBron’s priorities
Apologies, for the lack of updates the last few days as my body decided to wrestle a cold.
Now as many of you know, I’ve never really been a big fan of LeBron James. Even before the 2003 draft, I was asking people “Is this guy really going to be as good as everyone expects him to be…?” But five years later, there is no question of his basketball skills.
After reading this article last week, I really tried to ignore commenting on it. Not that I was afraid to criticize LeBron, but because I still wanted to see him as an amazing basketball player.
But after stumbling upon this entry from Signal to Noise linked by Deadspin, it almost forced me to comment.
Before anyone jumps the gun and gets their panties in a bunch, I realize that LeBron is going to be a top 50 if not top 10 NBA player when it’s all said and done. But for LeBron, it seems like making himself a “global icon” and “sport’s first billionaire athlete” are at the top of his list of priorities.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with making money and becoming rich. But I think it’s what you do with the money that sets you apart. But in the Aid Still Required campaign for Darfur, one very notable name is missing: LeBron James.
Now, I’m not saying that the athletes that are listed are better people than LeBron because most of these campaigns are set up by the athletes’ agents and publicists. But then again, LeBron fired his agent three years ago and is represented by himself and three of his friends…
Oh yea, LeBron plays in the NBA. Maybe his number one priority should be winning a NBA championship. It worked out for M.J., Magic, and the other greats. Those guys were obsessed about winning and getting their rings, after that everything else just fell into place.
LeBron, take a look at your buddy Jay-Z. He had all the platinum records and Grammies first before he started tapping into other industries.
Basketball first, everything else second.

Don’t be a douche LeBron.

If anyone here still thinks Lebron cares more about winning than all the peripherals of fame they should read this Simmons column. One of his best overall, search for Maria sharapova
