I don’t remember the last time there were so many nationally televised games in one day but thanks to the ABC/ESPN family, we got four today. The first one I didn’t catch mostly because I didn’t know it was on. But, I did happen to see some highlights and I’m still perplexed at how Big Baby Glen Davis is even somewhat decent in this league. He’s fat, slow and short. How is he so productive? It doesn’t make any sense to me…

A big big baby…
The second game involved Kobe and Dwade and their new star teammates, Pau and Marion. This was the first time I’ve seen Kobe and Pau in action and just like any big man going to a new team, their timing and execution is still off. On the other hand, this was the first game I’ve seen the Heat play this year where I didn’t feel like turning it off after five minutes. Marion’s energy and crashing of the boards was contagious and everyone seemed to have an extra hop in their step. Despite all that, they lost the game but the future does look bright, at least brighter than I had originally thought.
Again, I didn’t know there were more games on so I only saw the second half of the Nuggets’ destruction of the Cavs. But lucky for me, I did get to see these things.
1. Eric Snow was mic’ed up and all the players were saying how he should be “Coach Snow”. That’s probably a better suggestion than Coach Brown, oh wait…
2. After Ric Bucher’s sideline interview of Mike Brown after the third quarter, at which point his team was down 20, he asked him a series of questions related to the blowout. “What do you tell your team in this situation? How did this happen?” and etc. After hearing his answers, Doris Burke decided to indicate that Brown’s answers sounded like Coach Popp’s. Really Doris? Is that really a fair comparison? Mike Brown vs. Gregg Popovich?
3. During garbage time, Bucher talked about Denver’s possible interest in Ron Artest and I don’t even know how to respond to that. First of all, where do you play him? He’s too big for a two and two small for a four and Melo is staying at the three. And of course the obvious, Denver already has a pretty dysfunctional locker room, with A.I., Melo, J.R. Smith, and K-Mart but at least its the good kind of crazy right now since they’re winning. Add Artest to those four guys and you got yourself a full blown circus.
For the last game, we got to see Shaq sit on the bench against the Wizards and surprisingly the Wiz kept it close. I think the job Eddie Jordan has done with that team is really overlooked. They have a lot of solid young players and his old school Princeton style offense has kept everyone involved even without Gilbert. Also, I’m preparing to eat my words since a lot of former greats seem to think that Shaq will help the Suns win a championship. I’ve always liked Shaq when he’s in front of the microphone but in case you haven’t seen it, check out Shaq’s first press conference as a Sun.
