I wonder what Nash is thinking…

Just as I thought trades couldn’t get any worse the past few weeks, this Shaq trade to the Suns might just happen. I read all the rumors and speculation last night, but I just chose not to write, comment or believe it. Then I realized something. The new GM of the Suns is Steve Kerr. The same Steve Kerr that has five championship rings; three with Coach Phil, Jordan and the Bulls and two with Duncan and Coach Pop. The common trend: both of those teams were incredibly old school with their philosophies. So it must’ve killed Kerr to watch his Suns run and gun the past 40 or so games. That’s why he decides to bring in an old (very old) school big man in Shaq and get rid of his undersized PF in Marion who’s probably the second most valuable player on the Suns. Thats the only “logical” explanation for this trade. Otherwise how else can anyone explain the need for the slow, old, and now unathletic O’Neal, not to mention his hefty contract that’s a year longer than Marion’s.

Granted this trade doesn’t really help the Heat either as they needed promising young players or draft picks to build for the future. Marion isn’t an offensive player that can take people one on one and get 20 a night. His 20 a night comes from put-backs, dunks, open 3’s and Steve Nash. In other words, you don’t have to run plays for him to score, but then again, there aren’t plays for a guy like Marion.

I don’t understand the reasoning behind this trade. The Suns have so much to lose, why mess up the chemistry now? It’s worked the last three plus years. Also, it was pretty evident when Amare got injured that the Suns can survive without a great big man. The Heat, well they’re dead last and can only go up from there.
